The past year has been tough, this song empathizes with the rock and the hard place. Long story short, this song is about group struggle.

It's important to love and be proud of your community -- but how can you improve a community if you aren't willing to see its flaws? Acknowledging these flaws is tough -- but issues like racism, xenophobia, climate change, income inequality (and the list goes on and on and on and on) are not going away. We can't address these issues and overcome them if we don't acknowledge our governments and societal faults. The best patriot is a critical one, one who is willing to work on themselves, admit when their wrong, and work to improve the place we all exist in. As Paul Wellstone put it, “We all do better when we all do better.”

Be proud, love broadly, but accept and hold each other accountable for making this world a better place.
